The why and the women behind the seams

We’re turning back the dial. Slowing things down to reconsider what brings us joy. We focus on designing foundational, timeless styles that you’ll reach for day after day and season after season. Each piece is then crafted by hand just for you. For us, it’s about more than creating something beautiful to wear—it’s a reflection of our values and a source of pride.

crafted by hand just for you

Where it all started

Cedar & Vine’s philosophy was sparked in a college classroom—when, disheartened by the state of an industry built on fast fashion and overconsumption—I started to envision a more mindful way to make clothing. I wanted to wear something that felt special. Pieces that were made to be cherished.

HOW IT’S GOING

From the beginning, it was our goal to be transparent. Ultimately, no matter where we go with our brand, that is a value that will never change. So in order to keep that transparency, we want to introduce you to the wonderful team behind the creation of our products.

Jo

FOUNDER, DESIGNER & PATTERNMAKER

I'm Jo - the founder of Cedar and Vine. Where to start...this brand has taken me on such a crazy, wonderful journey - it's ever evolving and hard to summarize it up.

Each day in the studio looks slightly different for me and differs on the time of year. My main tasks include planning upcoming projects, shows, and collections, pattern drafting, grading, customizing made-to-order patterns, and doing all the day-to-day tasks that come with running a business.

I truly feel so blessed to be surrounded by the most lovely team and to have our entire production take place under one roof; where I can ensure that the entire process aligns with my personal values...and connect with likeminded people everyday. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting our brand.

Michaela

PHOTOGRAPHY, MARKETING & PRODUCTION

I’m Michaela, and I play a few different roles within Cedar & Vine. You can typically find me in our studio overseeing production. For most days that means organizing orders and running our cutting machine.

Jo is amazing at creating a thriving work environment, and giving us the encouragement to expand on and hone new skills. I have had the opportunity to evolve into our in-house photographer who's also constantly learning about the ins and outs of marketing.

Everyday I am so thankful that I get to work at a job that aligns my passions with my values, while also working amongst friends. I hope our customers feel so much joy putting on our pieces and understand how much thought and care went into the process of making their garment.

Kristine

LEAD SEAMSTRESS

My name is Kristine. Almost ten years ago I crossed the ocean to live here in Canada. Originally I'm from Latvia, where I found the magic of sewing. First inspiration I got was from my grandmother, who sewed clothes for my doll.  She transformed fabric into a dress like she knew some magic. Years later I found my mother's sewing machine.. And so it began. Now I am a dressmaker for almost two decades, still enjoying this job and my hobby at the same time.

When I'm not sitting at a sewing machine, I like to spend time with my family exploring Canada.

PACKAGING, SHIPPING & MODELING

Hi - I'm Rae. I started working for C&V after moving back to my home area from BC in June 2022. The team here are welcoming and extremely helpful! I have the privilege of steam pressing, wrapping, and shipping your new linens to you. I love to think of the packaging arriving at your door and your excitement to try your new pieces!

You may recognize me from modeling some of the linen garments here on the C&V site (not something I would normally do) that's all Jo - she is so encouraging and inspiring - always promoting the very best within each of us! I have to say I love the feel of linen on my skin.

Getting to work with linen and the lovely ladies here at C&V brings a smile to my face. I think of it as spreading our sunshine to the world stitch by stitch. I love that I get to be part of the process of creating something that makes you look and feel your very best.

Liudmyla

SEAMSTRESS

My name is Liudmyla, and I became a seamstress in high school over 50 years ago. Although I’ve had many different jobs in my life, sewing has always stayed a hobby of mine. When I got an idea or had an event coming up, I could stay up for two nights to be able to make myself a new dress. The ability to sew has always inspired me to take it to the next level.

In 2022, I had to leave my home in Ukraine and move to Canada, and here I met this amazing team at C&V. I’m very grateful to Jo for believing in my skills and giving me the opportunity to become a part of this team. I love using all my skills to make new things and to help people to fall in love with linen as much as I have.

Lisa

STORE CURATOR & CUSTOMER RELATIONS

Hello, I'm Lisa! I'm a wife, mother and grandma to two wonderful grandboys. I was born and raised in the North Portal area, moving to Estevan and then to Weyburn 9 years ago. I was blessed with two creative grandmothers who sewed, crocheted among other crafts so my love of being creative is so much a part of me.
Joining the Cedar and Vine team is something that feels perfectly suited to me. Jo's love of fabric and designing speaks to my heart. Working with this small team of talented women is so wonderful. You can find me in the showroom, answering your emails and questions.
I look forward to meeting you one day soon, be it in person or through an email.

Marnelle

SEAMSTRESS

Hello, my name is Marnelle. I was raised in the Weyburn area and have raised my three children here as well. After 45 years of working I retired…until I saw that Cedar & Vine was looking for someone to sew clothing.

Working here and using my skills I developed as a hobby is a wonderful experience. I am grateful for everyday that I get to come here and work with this talented group.

Created for women, by women

As a women-led team of designers and makers, we know that finding clothing that fits our ever-evolving bodies isn’t as simple as picking a number on a size chart. That’s why we take the time to understand your unique shape, using your measurements to alter the fit of our core styles so you can feel at peace in your body—whether that means extra length in the leg or a roomier fit through the hip. Our goal? Hearing you say, “I live in this.”

Crafted with love from our historic studio in Weyburn, Saskatchewan

Because every Cedar & Vine garment is ethically designed and sewn under one roof, we can give complete clarity about the environment our clothing is made in and the wellbeing of the women crafting it.

Behind the Scenes

What does the made-for-you process look like?

What happens in that window of time from when you place your order…to that happy “your order is shipped” notification? Come behind-the-scenes from start to finish!

no. 01

If customizations were requested in the order notes, those are made to the pattern first. We create a separate file with the modifications, should you choose to re-order in the future.

no. 02

The pattern is then ready to be made into a marker that we format and prepare for our cutting machine to read.

no. 03

Fabric is manually spread across the cutting machine table and then we let the machine do all the work of precisely cutting out each piece for the garment.

no. 04

The cut out garment pieces are then bundled together with a tag that indicates the style, size, and order number.

no. 05

Seamstresses ready their machines with matching thread, fuse pieces, and gather notions. Depending on the style complexity, this step takes from 1-6 hours.

no. 06

Every one of our products (other than our lined jackets/coats) gets washed. This helps kickstart that signature linen softness, and avoids any shrinkage on the customer's end.

no. 07

After being washed and dried, everything gets ironed while undergoing a quality check.

no. 08

Once passing quality control the products get wrapped and packaged.

no. 09

One of our couriers then picks up, or we drop the package off at the post office to be shipped to you!

our goal

By hand making garments that are custom-fit just for you, our goal is to inspire a deeper connection to your clothing. We believe when you choose to invest in quality pieces and feel close to the people who make them, you’ll cherish them for longer—and maybe even pass them down to someone else one day.

We would love to see you in person
